Today we live in a world where the Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and more than 5 million Americans are living with this disease, this number is skyrocketing and will rise to 14 million by the year 2050. Monies are being spent on research and clearly finding a cure is a necessity. In 2013, Alzheimer’s will cost the nation $203 billion. This number is expected to rise to $1.2 trillion by 2050.

The mission of the Alzheimer’s Association is to eliminate Alzheimer’s Disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. The Alzheimer’s Association has an extensive library and caregiver support network of literature and support groups that are an invaluable resource for thousands of families. Did you know that 1 in 3 seniors dies with this disease and in 2012, 15.4 million caregivers provided more than 17.5 billion hours of unpaid care valued at $216 billion.

You can help too. This request is for funding to support the development of a movie about Alzheimer’s. As part of educating the community about Alzheimer’s and the role of the caregiver, a powerful movie is being filmed in Nebraska and based on the true story of a Nebraska family fighting back against Alzheimer’s. 75% of the proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association Midlands Chapter. The film “It Snows All the Time” is about a family battling Frontotemporal Dementia/Alzheimer’s. This film will show the love of a family and what holds it together to provide care and support to a man struggling with this illness.

While many are at least familiar with Alzheimer’s, few know of Frontotemporal Dementia. It attacks at very young ages and renders a person unable to care for themselves or those around them. There has never been a movie that shows the younger onset of Alzheimer’s (Frontotemporal Dementia) which robs the individual of their memories and changes their behavior. You have the opportunity to be a part of something big that will make a difference in people’s lives.

I am requesting that you consider funding this worthwhile special movie project. Our goal is to raise $100,000 for the Alzheimer’s movie project and caregiver support and education. Your tax-deductible contribution is needed and will be put to good use to educate and support individuals with this disease and provide support for caregivers.

It is people like you that can make a difference for the families and caregivers impacted by this disease.

Thank you for consideration of this special funding request.
Please make checks payable to the Alzheimer’s Association Nebraska Chapter 11711 Arbor Street, Suite 110, Omaha, NE 68144.
